1]  STRETCHED CANVAS

 Stretched surface before Painting. This is done on a canvas prior to painting and is stretched on a wooden stretcher to be made or bought off the shelf. There is a range of qualities here we at Funky Frames are top Art and picture framers both private and to the trade and we offer this service from budget and upwards. Note some woods are prone to warping while others are prone to beetle infestation. Stretching a canvas before gessoing is easier and preferable. After stretching the canvas is ready for priming.

 Stretching after Painting .

 Here the canvas is stretched after it has been painted. Care must be taken not to tear the canvas or crack the paint . We are familiar with this operation and do this quite a bit

2]  PAINTINGS DONE on UNSTRETCHED CANVAS or  PAPER

Generally if the artwork is  on canvas it is stretched and then straight framed . But it can also be mounted as can  the artwork as a paper medium. Here the paper image is block mounted first then straight framed . We only use top quality backing boards to attaché paintings and artworks for this purpose.

Mount Boarding Surrounds

To enhance its appeal use can be made of  single or double mount boarding surrounds. This is  generally not widespread but is done on occasions and is a personal choice. Mount board surrounds are mostly used for all images framed under glass. These can be water colours, pastels,  prints or photographs. Again we use only the highest grade of boards for surrounds which are acid free. We also use restorative techniques only.

3] FRAMING of the ARTWORK

 Whether the work is stretched or mounted they can all be framed using a variety of framing techniques:

 *  STRAIGHT CUSTOM FRAMED using our wide range of the latest mouldings in the latest shapes and    the with the highest quality and technical requirement. Mouldings are available in either synthetic of natural woods. In some cases they are a veneer of both types of materials
